Maintaining and growing semiconductor and smart system manufacturing capability in Europe require a rapid evolution of the installed industrial base toward more efficient methods, flexible organizations and agile systems. This project is targeting the improvement of Semiconductor Manufacturing in Europe through innovation actions in the field of Manufacturing Sciences.
IMPLEMENT is leveraging on the solid consortium built through the previous IMPROVE and INTEGRATE
projects which both evidenced the realistic potential of improving the competitiveness of European semiconductor factories through the development and deployment in production of advanced methodologies for Process and Equipment Control, Line Management and Data Analysis. While IMPROVE demonstrated the potential interest of development actions, INTEGRATE allowed to test and validate demonstrators in parallel to production activities. It also evidenced the tremendous cost of integrating and then maintaining such advanced solutions for the management of complex fabrication lines, thus the need to mutualize development effort for European fabs.
IMPLEMENT is then targeting a whole set of actions aiming at facilitating deployment and maintenance of advanced Manufacturing Sciences solutions in existing facilities in order to improve their competitiveness. Given the variety of the players, the wide range of solutions remaining to be explored and then deployed, hence the specific context of Europe in terms of workforce, particular emphasis will also be brought on Knowledge capitalization, management and transmission.
Because of comprehensive incentives outside Europe, the world is not a level playing field. The solid consortium and effective collaboration scheme built through the previous IMPROVE and INTEGRATE projects may be one of the most valuable answers in sustaining European competitiveness.
